Hard to find upper radiator hose.....
Hard to find upper radiator hose.....
Every owner should be aware of this, I lucked out today. My upper radiator hose burst, not bad but showered the truck with coolant. I let the pressure off, left the cap loose and limped to Advanced Auto Parts. "Sorry, don't carry it." Went to Autozone and Napa, same story. Guess it is a dealer only part. So I went to Parkway Dodge in Birmingham. "Geez, we don't have one in stock, have one in the morning." "We've never had a call for one on a diesel." "Gotta load tonight, where is one?" There were only two in the state of Alabama, and both were at the same dealer, get this, a Chevrolet dealer in Oneonta, Alabama that services Dodges. Ok I drive up there and get it, not bad 50 miles. Parts manager told me that they had a cracked block to replace and also could not get one so they ordered three of them, used one. This could get serious out on the road, especially on a long weekend. Just figured I would let ya'll know.
Re:Hard to find upper radiator hose.....
Thanks Haulin !! I am starting to learn some of the difficulties in finding parts on the spur of the moment for these trucks. I think I'll go to Geno's , spend a little more of the kids inheritance and carry a few more parts then I usually do.
Good heads-up. I'm sure Tennessee where I live isnt any different. I'm having a heck of a time finding a lift pump.

Re:Hard to find upper radiator hose.....
I am planning on replacing both radiator hoses at my 100K mile coolant change, which should be about this time next year. www.genosgarage.com Geno's Garage carries both hoses for our trucks, fairly cheap as I recall. I haven't purchased mine yet, figured no sense in having them sitting around my garage dry rotting for the next year...
I asked at Cummins West in Sacramento a few months back when I was there buying filters, etc. if they carried the hoses and the parts guy looked them up and said nope, they are a Dodge part...

Re:Hard to find upper radiator hose.....
Geno's Garage carries just about anything you need. 8)But if you need it now that is a different story. Iwould think places like Autozone and Pep Boys would carry these everyday items ??? ???

Re:Hard to find upper radiator hose.....
Radiator hose...I replaced mine from a piece of 3" reinforced 300lb. burst pressure hose with spring loaded boost clamps, like the ones for the turbo hose clamps. Cost me $24.00 for the hose, $12.00 each for the clamps and it will be the last hose I buy for the Radiator...When I travel, I take along an extra lift pump, pusher pump, turbo, spare injection pump, piece of 3/4" heater hose w/ clamps, 3/8" fuel line W/calmps, electrical wire, electrical fittings & fuses, tape, old boost hoses, old fan belt, and of course tools. This sounds like a lot but it all fits into a Rubbermaid plastic container in the back of my truck. The turbo got me home twice, got another guy home another time, the heater hose and fuel hose to another guy. I travel 750-1200 miles one way to different events, and the last thing you want is to break down in "no where land USA" and can't find parts. Even if you don't have the ability to do some of the above work yourself, you can always find someone to help you.
