Fuel system re-done again
Fuel system re-done again
A while ago when my stock lift pump went out, I went from stock, to this:
and this, mid way between the VP44 and tank:
Aside from the AWFUL wiring job, I got to thinking that having the pump AFTER the filter is backwards. The VP44 is the important pump, not some $70 Carter pump. Also don't know what kind of air or sediments the pump could introduce into the fuel system (pieces of the rotary vanes as it wears down?), so the logical thing was to put it in front of the filter right back by the tank.

The racor filter is rated to 120 GPH, 15 PSI and is 2 microns.

You are right. The main filter should be after the LP. However the LP could also use filtered fuel so what I did was install a second filter before the LP. The spin-on Fram filter is rated at 15 microns so it does not restrict the flow too much.
It's good to have a filter before the filter, but even a 100 micron screen is enough.
You just want to catch the big stuff, and you DO NOT want to create a restriction, because that can cause pump cavitation and all kinds of really bad things.
