mpg question

OK guys here is what I got. 99 quadcab 4X4, 4inch exhaust, AFE filter, final gear ratio 3.55, 255 85R16's for tires edge E-Z and a full billet torque converter, After doing the math I am gettin 17.34 MPG. I need to know what kind of millage some of you are getting. Now I know that the computer is giving me 20.3 MPG average. Please let me know what kind of milage you are getting after you do the math. I am trying to figure out if this is a good number and if my truck has a problem. The guys at the shop that I am working with are telling me that I should get a 8-9 MPG improvement and that they have several customers that are getting that kind of improvement. If that were the case the EZ would be a no brainer. Please let me know what you are getting with no pie in the sky numbers like 33MPG.

I've been averaging about 18-20 MPG with a stock engine and the few bombs below.

The best I've even seen myself is about 25 MPG on one trip but never seen it again.

I've noticed that you change the tire size to 255/85/R16. Did you have the speedo re-calibrated? If not you MPG numbers are going to be off.

Also with larger tire it takes more engine power to turn them so in turn your MPG number will go down for larger tires.

Just my 2 cents worth...

Is that all they say you'll get is 8-9 mpg better, I wouldn't buy it unless you get at least 10-12mpg increase. You might see 1-2 mpg increase real world numbers, also your tires will affect power and mileage somewhat, again lots depends on your driving style. It sounds about right in the range(is that imperial or U.S. gal)?

I've started checking lately and getting 15-16 in town/highway mix, I'm thinking I get a little more when I get the trans freshened up (still the original trans) 8-9 mpg more? Pie in the sky

thanks. I did the math and took the tire size into account. The trans was recently rebuilt with a lower stall torque converter. I am thinking that pie in the sky too, but I thought I would be getting better milage than I am seeing. THanks again

Check my sig below for mods.

I consistantly get 19 average. computers says 24. I have a 120 mile trip every day, work and back.
I have gotten 22 once and as low as 9.
I'm hoping to swap in some 4.10's soon just for the power increase.
@ 70 mph I'm turning 1600 rpm.

I average exactly same as you - 17.3 mpg.
This was on a 1,000 mile check...so includes all kinds of driving....except towing.....with about 20% of the time at gross weight.
I do not get the big increase on hwy mileage that some others report, probably cause I cruise at 75-80 mph.
I think very few 4x4 automatics average better than us for 50-50 driving (Hwy & City).

Wow. That's a pretty big drop in mpg's by adding wheels... I'm curious to see what mpg's some of you get with lifted trucks and big wheels. Cause I'm thinkin of switching to a 4wd monster .

I Bought My Truck Used And It Already Had 100,000 Miles On It . I Have Put About 20,000 Miles On It Now And The Best I Have Ever Got Is 13 Mpg And That Was On The Highway .and Even After My Bombs It Didn't Improve. I Would Be Thrilled To Just Get 17 Mpg

with all in town driving my best has been 14.5 mpg-and that was from my first fillup. i just filled up yesterday and after the math i was down to 12.6 mpg. this was the forth time i have filled up since buying the truck two months ago and i seem to lose a mpg every fillup. i filled with citgo the day i bought it and shell for the next two. i filled with citgo yesterday to see if i improve. i was told shell and texaco had the better diesel. why might i be getting such an odd number compared to the rest of you? i know the all-in-town-driving is part of the reason its lower but that low? cmon! i have the tires filled up to about max and im fully unloaded. anyone have any ideas?

This month I got 20.3. No computer all hand. I went 671 on 33+/- gallons. mixed driving. Its getting cold though and it is smoking a lot more. I wonder what I will get this winter? I talked to a guy with a 4x4 03 and he said the best he has seen is 17. I thought that kind of odd being as some people here with 03's are claiming 24. It is how you drive, but he was no teenager. Idunno maybe he was wrong.
