........"DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT"
I think the last line of your Sig might be your problem.

As an experiment, I drove very carefully for one tank of fuel.
No "jackrabbit" starts, boost kept below 10psi, rpm kept below 2000 rpm, Comp box set on 2X3.
This acheived 18.3 mpg combo city-highway (hand calculated)

The next tank I drove 'normal' for me.
First off the light, highway running at 65 mph (2300 rpm), Comp box on 3X5 (most of the time), Boost wherever my right foot put it.
This acheived 13.8 mpg for the same route.

You right foot is a HUGE factor when determining mpg.

Curious? I notice less smoke in the winter with the cooler air. Mileage does seem to drop off a little (even though we have #2 diesel, yr rd).

What shovelhead said!! I get a little over 20 if I try hard - freeway on cruise at 65 but it's not fun!! I'd buy a hybrid if I really wanted mileage.

i have also used power service since the second fillup. could that possibly hurt mileage? seems most have said it gained a mile or so.

Well, you have a couple of things fighting against you.
4x4, auto tranny and dual rear wheels.

Not sure where you are located, but in the last 2 months you could be getting winterized fuel, which would knock 1-2 mpg off.

Check the fuel filter, check your fuel pressure, check the cleanliness of your IAT sensor, run some powerservice or similair through it, and take it easy with the go fast pedal.

In the morning when the engine is cold it will haze. If you tap the throttle it will throw a puff of whitish black smoke, not a ton but definatly noticable. Once warm it never smokes. Cold air is good to a point. Too cold on a diesel and you can lower cumbustion temps enough to not complete combustion hence smoke. How cold does it get there? The coldest it has been so far is 40 or so. It can get in the negatives up here.

Average cold around here is lower 30's...in the dead of winter! Unusual not to hit 50* sometime during the day.
"lower combustion temps" is a good argument for adding HP, IMO.
I can hit 1100-1200* anytime I want...just driving to work. Cruising at 70 mph I hold 800* year round.....and that's on a 180* t-Stat. If we get a cold spell...I just snap in a cold front (left over from living farther north) and ready to go!

mpg comment

I am in the Denver area and I baby this truck. Coast as much as possible and keep my foot off the boost pedal as much as possible. Tire presures are right at the limit and the fuel filter is new. So I do not see how I can ever get over 20. Which is what the console says. I would hate to see what I got if I drove it like I stole it. I have a car for that and it gets 6mpg on a good day. This is my economy car. Thanks again for all the imput.

Mpg

How many people go to the trouble to see if their odomiter is correct, before they change tire size? After haveing six of these trucks I don't depend on the factory to have the odomiter right some of you need to make sure that 1 mile is 1 not .8 or .9 on your odomiters. I ran hot shot and asked everyone I met and consitantly saw 12-15mpg loaded and 18-19 empty hwy 65mpg 355 or 410 gears. My current truck the OD was corect and the speedo was of with stock tires. Now with the 235 tires the speedo is correct and the OD is off.

Are you hand calculating, or going by the MPG "Guesser" in the console?
