Fuel Solenoid Problem

I think I have a problem with my fuel soleniod but not positive that is what it is. Sometimes my truck will start fine yet other times it will just crank and crank. I think the fuel solenoid isn't getting power and I'm not sure if it is just a bad connection or if the coil inside it is worn out. When it does start it sounds like it is trying to turn off sometimes. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

24 valves do not have a fuel solenoid ............you may need a new injection pump, or it may be something simple, like sucking air in the fuel system... check your fuel pressure, you should have no less than 10 psi at an idle

I could be wrong but the way I understand it, is that the fuel is metered and timed electronically. So to shut itself off, it would just quit metering fuel.

Thanks johnnh,
I have a constant lift pump preasure of 12 psi. would you happen to know where I could connect a fuel preaasure gage on the VP44 boost pump to check fuel preasur?
since the truck wont start I can only check PSI while cranking the engine over.

Thanks for the help

You may have a motor mounted lift pump or an in tank lift pump. There is a schrader fitting on the vp 44 next to the fuel inlet hose.

Your truck is also code capable. Key cycle on/off 3 times and record odometer info.

Thanks.
I'll check it out. The truck has an aftermarket FASS lift pump with water separation and fuel filter.

When I turn my key the FASS runs with a pretty audible whine for about a second or so. If I do a filter swap it will kick on and run for about 3-10 seconds to build pressure.
I am hoping you have an air intrusion situation rather than a vp issue.

Let us know what you find,

Kurt
