fuel pressure drop=filter change?
fuel pressure drop=filter change?
after installing my pressure gauge(mechanical)my truck had 7psi at idle.i could pull it down to 5psi with wot.then one day i started it up and at idle it wasn't even 6psi.i could just about keep it above 3psi cruising.i changed the filter for now, seeing the tank is still pretty full and i don't have my drawstraw from vulcan yet(in-tank pump
).i turn the key and now i have a solid 9psi at the IP with 7psi wot.
well i don't know how many mile's on the filter.the dealer i bought it off 1500 mile's ago said they changed it
so i was wondering if any of you guy's watch your pressure gauge for filter maintance?
i have a pump to install on the frame, hopefully get some more pressure.the way my luck runs the in-tank will wet the bed in the dead of winter, with a full tank

I think your pump is weak. I hope you have a new pump. It will help to mount the pump back on the rail. Wait until the tank is almost empty and blow the fuel back into the tank before cutting the line, otherwise it will siphon out. I have a big line kit with an OEM pump mounted on the rail and I get a solid 13lbs
do you guy's have steady pressure even if the filter is old with some mile's on it?
i already have a vulcan big line relocation kit on my truck.the only problem is it has an in-tank pump kit also.i need the draw straw to replace the pick up thats in the tank.i have a new 140gph at 14psi pump and aeromotive in-line fuel filter sitting on the shelf.it would take me an easy 15 minute's to bolt it up and run a wire down from the relay.i just don't want to run both pumps.i guess i could pump the fuel out of the tank, but don't have a container to hold 30 gallons

The in tank pumps are notorious for low pressures. I would get the Draw Straw 2 from Vulcan, get it all plumbed and you'll be fine. In the meantime, don't beat ont he truck until after you get the tank run down.

i'm waiting on a 1/2 draw straw from vulcan.i'm just under 3/4 of a tank, hard when you drive it 5 miles a day.
today i ended up installing my external pump and filter on the frame.i left the in-tank pump also hooked up.i can pull it down to 13psi at wot,not bad with two filters restricting the fuel.i'm just worried about the intank pump letting go and having no pressure.
would the external pull fuel through the in-tank pump?

That depends.
Some set up the system to use the in tank pump as a pusher. I prefer to bypass that pump as it won't be able to keep you stranded and then you only have 1 accessible pump to deal with.
This is just my opinion, but multiple pumps often create multiple points of failure.

ya dave i was thinking the same, the in-tank is to much work if it fails.the one on the frame would take minute's to swap.i could even do it on the side of the road with a couple of wrench's.the pump on the frame is actualy quieter then i thought it would be.
i should have the stuff from vulcan by tuesday.it will be nice to get rid of all the 3/8" line and have the 1/2. the pressure would probably be a little higher in the smaller line.
thanks for the input guy's
