fuel pressure check

after researching on here i decided it was time to check my fuel pressure (100K stock lift pump) my setup (1999) has no port to check pressure ???

my buddy's 2000 has a port on top of the fuel filter (btw he is @ 0 psi @ ilde (40K miles)

FWIW my lift pump sounds great, his sounds like * edited for language, both trucks start and run great and pull fine....

what gives ????, how do i check my pressure ?

On your 99, you should have 2 brass plugs on the top of the canister. If not, it is not stock, and I have no info about that.

The plug on the left is "post filter", the one on the right (cab side) is "pre filter". Most people plumb the FP into the post filter (left) port. The threads are 1/8 NPT so you may need an adapter.

You can go to NAPA and buy an air conditioning fitting with a schrader valve and threads that plumb right into where the brass plugs go. You can then buy a fuel psi gauge that screws right on the fitting and check the fuel psi any time you want. Anything under 10 at idle and I would be doing a fuel volume test.

Ditto J BODY. You can get a mini fuel pressure gauge(15psi max) at Autozone for $10. It aint purty, but it will connect right to the canister. I have one, and an electric sending unit to my in cab gauge.

I would go w/the Blue, it's cheaper, and from what I have read the Black may be hurting itself by trying to pump too much too fast. My Black is dying slowly.
5psi when reved in the driveway is way too low, cuase when you are on the road, the VP will be sucking it down to 0psi under load.

Yea, that will work. I would also get the Max Flow from wildcat and do it all at the same time.

Not sure, but I read the Holley info, it says the Blue requires the regulator, not sure why.

Does this pump replace the stock one? What I mean is does it just bolt right in?

I will need another soon and am tired of paying $179 at the Cummings NW dealer. ($350 at dealer)

Also, what's good PSI for our Fuel? I heard 10, but what at above idle?

Thanks,

Pete
