Fuel pressure..

I know this has been beat to death but I didnt find an answer like I was looking for...

Start the truck this morning and the fuel pressure gauge decides to work...

14-15 PSI at idle, I'm happy as a clam

so I start driving it, the psi goes down as the engine warms up till I pull into the shop and im reading 11psi at idle... it never went below 5psi at wot, so I think that is good

but I did notice that when I was heavy on the brakes, I could get the gauge to read 14psi

and I found that I could vary the PSI over idle by how fast I was stopping

is the 15psi at idle in neutral?

Update time...

Gauge runs normally 11PSI untill you do some full throttle passes then it sits around 10psi

also at 2900RPM the gauge gets down to 3.5

With those readings, make sure everything is hooked up correctly. If so, and I'm guessing it is, then it sounds like your lift pump is shot. You should not drop below 7-8spi under wide open throttle. Check to see if there are any codes being set on your truck. If your lp is shot, then its only a matter of time before your vp-44 dies on you also. If you don't pass the flow test (I can't remember the specs), then its time to replace your lp. Hopefully you can catch/delay the problem by just replacing the lp. If your pressure is still low, then say hello to a new fuel pump.

P.S. Please fill in your signature so we can have a better idea of what you are talking about.

er sorry... forgot to fill in the sig at work... its my truck

I dont think my LP is quite done yet and I sure as hell cant afford to fix it at the moment... to my knowledge I have no codes

EDIT: if I bump the starter my LP makes all kinds of crazy noise... its messed up. Its not like the constant buzz, it changes pitch basically at random... its crazy

Its time to replace it! The quicker the better.

A lift pump from cummins shouldn't cost more than $150. You could do a Holley blue setup.

Seems the forum is mixed on how good the Blues are... I've never been a big fan of holley pumps

does aeroquip or walbro make anything that will cut the mustard?
