Fuel leak...
Fuel leak...
Chasing a fuel leak, post fuel filter and lift pump change. Seems to be blowing around from the fan making it difficult to find the little bugger... It is dripping on the starter and other stuff and vaporizing. Bad smell...

Q#1: Do I have to change the gaskets on the Banjo bolts when I remove the supply lines? ( I diddn't)

Q#2: Is there equal pressure at the injectors at an idle, than (say) 2000 rpm's? I'm looking for better ways to find the leak while staring at all the lines/fittings...

Q#3: (unrelated) Is there a standard issue with my Ram pulling to the right slightly? All my friends say they had the same trouble prevous to the $50 fix they had done. (I'm at 55k miles)

Thanks for all the interesting FAQ's and articles you have posted here, I've learned alot. While chasing the leak I took the 30 seconds to remove the "silencer" ring like so many of you have, and I love the whistle [ :-*grunt]

Thanks for any info you may have from a similar experience...

Pete

P.S. Just FYI, My pride is still recovering!

Re:Fuel leak...
Pete,

As far as queation #1, I am fairly certain that you should replace the compression gaskets on the banjo when you remove and replace the supply lines. From you description of the leak location, that is the first place I would look.

Not sure about the other 2 ?'s.

Hope this helps.

Jim
Re:Fuel leak...
Hey McGyver! I thought we were supposed to ask you all the questions! A little trick to find an elusive leak: Clean the area real thorough with a spray{brake cleaner} then cover the suspected spots with aerosol foot powder. Drive around the block a couple times and have a look, you may need to drive farther. This works very well for motorcycles, even with all the wind whipping around.
Re:Fuel leak...
Guys,

Thanks for the ideas! I'll get some gaskets. The Idea about the foot powder is a great one...

I'll try it after work and get back to you.

Pete

P.S. any more ideas are welcome also.
Re:Fuel leak...
Just recently replaced my lift pump. Then did it again!! My lift pump was leaking around the "ring" (compression ring where the pump motor and pump housing are actually connected) on the back side only when the temp. was below 45 degrees. So it.
Re:Fuel leak...
Look at your Water Drain Valve on the canister. I had a slight leak coming rom somewhere to when I replaced the bolts with the new ones from Geno's and couldn't figure out where it came from. I realized that the valve was dripping ever so slightly. So I took a vaccum plug and plugged it up and zip tied it on there. No more leak.
Re:Fuel leak...
Check the lift pump lines. They are known to crack and leak. I just replaced one of mine. Good luck with the dealership knowing what you need. They are not to knowledgeable about these trucks. There was a post in the HELP section recently about this same subject. You can open your hood and turn the key to the on position and the pump will run so you should be able to see where the fuel is coming from..
