Fuel Heater Leak

A guy I know has a 98 24v that is leaking fuel around the grommet where the fuel heater wires run into the filter housing. I called my local Cummins place and they told me that the parts were no longer available. I'd like to assume that there is another source for this grommet and any related o rings. Anybody care to point me in the right direction?

Mine is leaking in the same spot. Got 3 different pictures from Dodge Parts department, yet still no 99 cummins fuel heater.

Do a search, there is an excellent thread discussing this issue and what parts are used. That style of ff/heater is no longer available and I have seen used ones on ebay sell close to $400.

Pushing from the top, the heater separates from the housing.

This is the hardest part. Remove the pins by removing back side(side nearest heater) of plug, slide back orange seals, Pull on spade part of plug with needle nose pliers(away from heater), slide something in from the heater side of the plug and compress PLASTIC tab and slide out the spade. VERY VERY HARD.

Autozone didn't have the o-ring. O'Reilly had it online, but none in stock in this district. I found it at Ace Hardware for 49 cents.

I tried getting the wires out of the plug like the guy above, but it was too difficult. I wouldn't bother attempting that. Here is a picture of what I did. I cut the wires, installed the new o-ring, crimped these connectors onto the wires, put heat-shrink tubing on the wires, connected the wires, then shrank the tubing with a heat gun. Note that I cut the wires at different places so the metal connectors won't touch even if there is no insulating tube. I think the wire and connectors are about 10 AWG, and the heat-shrink tube is 7 mm (you could use 6 mm).

I can cut of the heat-shrink tube and disconnect/reconnect the wires easily if I ever need to again. The new o-ring seems to have fixed the leak.

Unplugging the big plastic connector was a bit of a challenge for me. I just snipped that plastic mounting piece off so I could move the plug and get a better view and grip on it. I zip-tied it back up when done.
