Friction Modifiers for Auto Trans?

I've heard of guys using friction modifier additives in their ATF, anyone know what to use and where to buy? I kinda think my trans may have slipped a little while towing a medium wieght load, pavement was wet, but it seemed like trans, and it wasn't locked up at the time...

Lubeguard in the black plastic bottle. You can get it at NAPA.

Friction modifier REDUCES the holding power of the clutch material. You are already slipping. Friction modifier could finish off your transmission.

What WestTN said ! Friction modifier will make the oil more slippery. We use it on Caterpillar equip. that use wet multi-disc brakes in the differentials when the brakes get too jerky or shudder. Be very careful how much you add if you use a friction modifier and follow the directions on how much to add to your fluid capacity. This isn't one of those things if a little is good, a lot more is better. You can make the clutches in a limited-slip diff. useless by adding too much. Lube guard is fine if you have a new trans or clutches and you are getting a little shudder on clutch applications, then it would help smooth out the clutch applications. Otherwise I wouldn't use it. Just my $.02 worth.
Regards, Mike.

I've used lubegard in other auto trannies with good results. Both the red and black bottles.
The yellow bottle works great for handshaker trannies

I second lube gaurd. Dave Goerend told me it is what he recommends and he even sent me a bottle with my trans. If it is good enough for Dave's transmissions it's got to be good stuff.

lube gaurd makes a little capsule container called tranny dr. maybe has 3oz. of highly concentrated in it if it helps then you can use the black bottle after a good flushing and filter change ( according to mfg. paperwork)

Friction Modifir For Auto Trans

You have me confused. I just changed the tran fluid today and have not installed the Lube Guard at this time. My tran has 80k on it. Do I wait until problems or pour in the Lube Guard now? Thanks for stearing us correct.

Shudder and slipping are two different things. If its a shudder the lube guard will help, if its slipping then nothing short of a rebuild will help.

DTT recommonds filling thier trannies with Dex3 and a bottle of red lube guard.
