Friction modifier quantity vs. LSD performance
Friction modifier quantity vs. LSD performance
Fixing to change the fluid in my rear end.
I've got the right amount of oil, but am confused about the friction modifier. The manual says 7 ounces, but I've read some of you guys put as much as 10 ounces. What are the effects advantages/disadvantages of putting a little more/less.
I tow about 4,000 a few times a month. My trailers are parked out in the grass so when I got to get them after a rain, having the LSD perform as good as possible is helpful. Also helps to have it in good shape out on the boat launch too.
On Edit to the original thread: I bought the Royal Purple 75W-90. It says it already has aditives in it for LSDs. Do I still need to add more, or go with what the manual says. Why do things have to be so complicated???

If you put too much in, the clutches will be too slippery and the LSD function will be compromised. Too little could cause chatter when taking corners. With either the RP or Amsoil SVG, you don't need to add the modifier.
