Fluid Change Time....

We want to change all the fluids in the CTD before we sell it and so we can make sure the snychros or the clutch is not shot beofore we sell it.

    Thanks
    Jeff

P.S No Mopar fluids, they are to expensive and the closest dealer is about 60 miles away.

This is what I am using:
Redline MTL for the tranny (from summit)
Amsoil 75-140 for the diff ( from Amsoil)
and this is what I came up with for the transfer case:
      From Dodgeram.org http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/tranfer_case.htm
Mopar Dextron II, or ATF Plus type 7126 automatic transmission fluid.

      * Do not use anti friction additives or similar products.
      * Some brands of Dextron II fluids can cause seal failure.
      * Some people use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF (it is in my 1994 NP241).
      * Some people report that AMsoil also works with no trouble.

      HTH,

      Joe

Penzoil Synchromesh will work in the 6 speed, Autozone usually has it.

Standard mineral based ATF is the factory fill for the T-case.

And mineral based 80W-90 hypoid gear oil will work in the differential(s).

If you're keeping it for the long haul, I'd recommend synthetics for the driveline, but they're not going to increase your trade-in value at all.

We're not trading it in or anything,we have a few people that want to buy it. We just want to go over the whole truck and change the fluids, and make sure nothing major is wrong with the trans. We are hoping it will fix with some new fluid and if not hopefully it is just the snychros.

Thanks for the suggestions on fluids, going to be doing it this weekend since it is not suppose to rain.

I did all the fluids on my 01 6 speed

I used AMSOIL 80w90 synthetic in the front and rear diffs. They come 90W according to my book. 75w140 Severe Gear would be a good choice for heavy towing.

I used AMSOIL ATF in the transfer case

I originally had AMSOIL MTF in transmission. Worked well at first, but changed it after 5000 miles because of harder shifting.

Put in REDLINE MTL and I'm happier. Seems smoother for sure.

I have a related question ---- At 30k miles I added a Mag-hytek rear diff cover and change to Royal Purple 75-90w (6 quarts). Now at 80k miles I checked the fluid and it is getting dark and funky smelling. Is it a waste of money to dump Royal Purple after 50k miles? I do not tow at all.

I'm running Royal Purple in the front diff. and it still looks like new.

Some people might think that dumping oil at 50K is a waste.

The way I see it, "Oil is cheaper than the component it's in" You can't buy a NV5600 transmission anymore so changing the oil on a regular basis is cheap.

A rear diff is rebuildable sure at any mileage, but $50 to $100 bucks in oil or so is cheap compared to an overhaul.

I'm not **** about maintenance, believe me, but if you feel any component needs it's oil changed, do it. I guess it's a pay now, pay later thing. Now is better in my mind.

      I'll sit down now

Thats for the suggestions on fluids, going to pick them up tomorrow to do over the weekend. I am with Homestead, we are not very **** when it comes to the fluid in th truck except for the oil,anti-freeze,and washer fluid. The fluids have yet to be changed in what i listed above from when the dealer did it when it was bought, that was 28,000 miles and now there is 120,000 miles on it of towing, plowing, hauling tools, etc. so it is due.
