Engine Temp Rising while Towing

I have a stock 2001 2500 4wd Auto. It is stock with 200k. Origanal Tranny that is lets say Fairlly loose. It is time for a new one. The radiator is clean

A couple years ago pulling 7500 pds. the truck would peg the temp guage on mild hills on the interstate. This was on a summertime day. No load and it was fine. I sold the camper before I fixed it.

I never heard the fan clutch so I put a new one in but no load could not really test it.

This winter my thermostat started to stick so I replaced it with a stock 190.

I bought a new trailer. Lets say it is 9k as it sits now. It was only 50 out yesteday. The temp was fine on the highway. But rose quickly on my last backroad hill.

On this hill I was trying to see if it would rise. The hill was maybe 3/4 of a mile
Lets say it was a 5degree grade. I rolled into it, the converter is very loose. I was In second gear 30-40 or mph at 2700 rpm with my foot almost to the floor. The temps really started to rise to the far right line. The hill stop and the tems came back to normal in a mile or so.
I never heard a fan clutch engage , but maybe I just cant hear it.
Think my Tired tranny and loose converter have enough influence on my engine temps that quick

Your thoughts
Thanks

Have you actually pulled the radiator to see. Mine was heating pulling a trailer and we pulled it and it was completely clogged with oil and dirt. If yours hasn't been pulled I would bet on the blow by tube oil causing the problem.
We got everything cleaned and put a hose on the blow by to the back of the engine.

I'd bet on a externally dirty rad as well, it might look clean from the engine side, but inbetween the rad and intercooler it can be plugged. best way in my opinion is to remove it and take it to the carwash with a can of engine de-greaser, mine was so bad it took 10$ at the car wash before it would flow clean water thru the cores, just be careful NOT to bend the fins while washing

While talking to a guy a few months back he was more or less having the same problem. He said that he had done everything he could think of. Then he looked at his air filter. "it was nearly black". but the little "gauge" still said it was good. Changed it and all was good

I will pull the rad and give it a good cleaning. It will be a couple weeks before I can get to it. I removeved the puke bottle last year and vented out the back with a heater hose.

The air filter is new.

Thanks for the suggestions
