Engine Ping sound under load

I've recently been hearing what sounds like a gas engine ping. This mainly is heard while in OD and traveling at about 50 mph. Once the RPM's are up the sound goes away. I can hear it only in 3rd locked lugging the engine and 4th again low RPM's and lugging the engine. If I stay on the peddle and let it shift at higher RPM's no problem. I had a valve job done a few months ago but this just started several thousands of miles later. Truck has just under 78000 miles. Could I already be getting winter blend fuel? I rarely use fuel treatments in the summer months but always do in the winter months.

Ideas?

I get this in mine too and just did a valve adjustment a few thousand miles ago, but its done it before and after that. I think its just the crappy fuel.

Well I currently have Pneumonia so I'm not doing much with the truck but I did have to drive it today and at idle I could really hear it but it sounded like it was resonating in the fuel pressure gauge. Tightened up the needle valve and the sound went away, at least the in cab sound I was hearing. I can still vaguely hear it under the hood but it's not a ping sound just more of a ticking sound. I'm going to put in some fuel treatment and see.

I think I know what you are talking about, not possitive though.

The cooler weather is likely causing some advancing of timing. Try turning the Edge off (which also advances the timing) and listen to the engine after it has been driven enough to be thoroughly warmed up.
