- It's shipped with Chevron Premium Blue, not break-in oil.
- Unless it's free from the dealer, do you own changes with API CI-4 mineral base not synthetic oil
- Purchase Fleetguard filters from places online like Geno's Garage, and save money
- While you're at it, order an air filter and a couple of fuel filters too.

I like Amsoil. ;D

But in your case, you need to get that puppy broken in before you switch to the synthetic of your choice. Cummins recommends against synthetic oils until at least 10K (a testament to the superior lubrication properies of synthetic). If I have to use a dino oil
I use Penzoil, but anything that has the proper oil rating, as noted in your manual, should do fine.
I'm not starting a war here.

I have a link to a site where a lot of oil evaluations have been done, but I won't be back home until this weekend to get access to that bookmark. PM me if you want it and I'll get it to you this weekend.

Chris
I stopped by the local Kenworth dealer and bought my FleetGuard LF3894 Stratapore filter for $7.88, tax included, in my hand. No shipping charge, no wait and cheaper than even Geno's.

Re:Engine oil brand ????
I bought my last fleetguard filters at a cummins/detroit diesel/cat shop and they were about 5.50 each. I didin't realize I was getting such a deal. Iguess I won't even waste my time searching online for a better deal

I buy the Valvoline premium blue from my friendly Cummins dealer. And my fuel, oil and air filters. Best deal over here . Oil is 2€/liter instead of the cheapest other oil with CH4 for 18€/liter ;D and oil filters are about 7.90€ per pc.

Should work fine, it's the stuff that Cummins recommends.

AlpineRAM

The newer blends of hydrocracked dino oils are all you would ever need for literally hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles.

Rotella T Synthetic
Chevron Delo
Valvoline Premium Blue
Petro Canada Duron

All of the above are great oils with a great price/value. With either drain schedule for the 03 Cummins most of us are not going to be changing oil constantly like the old days.
