The stratapore is Fleetguard LF3894. You can get it at big rig dealers or genosgarage.com. It's a great filter. There are a few filters that are even better though imo. One is the Wix 57620XE, and the other is the Donaldson Endurance filter (aka Amsoil Eao). The latter being the best. The first link you posted is correct. Synthetic is not needed but good for the winter. I definitely notice a difference with synthetic oil on cold starts even in temps of 40-50 degrees F.

THanks for the info. Where can i get my hands on the other filters... The better the filter the... well... better! Although if the filters are like 60$ that would be a little crazy.

What about those centrifugal filter systems? Are they worth the money? How much ARE they, and does anyone have one?

As far as oil filters, I have ran Wix, Purolator, Fleetgaurd, and Napa Gold, which is also a Wix. I prefer the Fleetgaurd Stratapore over the others. However I would stay far away from the "F-word".....Fram

Amsoil's website has them. Not sure about the Wix. I'm sure you can get them from other places too. Centrifugal bypass is highly rated, but the only problem is you have to find a spot to drill the oil pan for the oil return line because it's gravity fed back into the sump. Not sure I feel like pulling off my oil pan... I think a regular bypass type filter is more than enough.

I have tapped an oil pan for a supercharger return before. Wasnt so bad. Used an air drill and left pan full of oil.... Slow drill for smaller long, easy to control chips and it worked well. Made a hell of a mess, but the oil carried everything out. Then we flushed it out by recirculating some oil through the hole and back out.

i used to ran delvac in my 90 7.3 n/a. tried it in the cummins and had an oil consumption problem (leaking on ground). i run caterpillar 10-30 in winter and cat 15-40 in summer. i am thinking of trying deeres plus 50 since i work for a dealer and oil cost just keeps going up everytime i do a service.

The Valovoline PB is endorsed by Cumins, in CJ. It has the best TBN numbers when used over time. I believe NAPA is also made by Ashland, perhaps the same blend. The CI+4 wasa much better blend for pre 08 5.9's. Most oils that meet Cummins spec are OK. Do a search on oil, reading for days.
I personally think synthetic is overkill, as you have to change it anyway at the recommended limit. Many people run it much farher and test it. There are as many opinions on oil here as members. Stick with what Cummins recommends, you will mostly not go wrong. Most members prefer the Fleetguard Stratopore filters, as recomended by Cummins. Genos is a good place for this.

John Deere's filter to replace wix 57620 is ty22013. Have one in my hand now and its exactly like the fleetguards I have used before, except it has no fleetguard ID on it and has a sticker with the JD # on it. $5.99 before my discount!!!!

Anybody ever heard of Synergin Racing Oil? Pretty expensive but a guy I know runs it in his fleet of trucks and SWEARS by it. I put it in my truck and noticed oil consumption went down (the 4.10's at 70mph like to drink oil!!!)
