Engine not accelerating right

I have an 02 2500 Q/C 4X4. It is still under warranty and it has a problem when I pass someone on the highway. I step on the accelerator the trans goes into passing gear and as the rpms mount the motor begins to hesitate and lose power. For any of you guys from the 60s and 70s era it reminds me of a gas engine that is all carboned up when you pass. I know this isn't the case here, but that is what it feels like. Any ideas???

Thanks

This is where gauges help diganose. How much boost/how little fuel pressure. If you dont want to get gauges, and truck is under warranty, take to the dealer.

I have a 5 spd, but my acceleration loss was caused by a bad IAT sensor.

i had the same problem on my 2002. over boost and the map sensor reads it and tells the computer that it is overboosting and the computer starts to de-fuel. mine ran good at all speeds just that anything over 3/4 throttle it started to hold back. all i did was take a small crescent whench and grab the turbos waste gate shaft and freeded it up. it was barely stuck. do your self a favor and get some gauges on your truck. geat tools for monitoring and diagnosing problems. how many miles on your truck and how many miles on the fuel filter?

First off thanks. The fuel filter is due for a change. I put a new one in every spring and every fall. I thought maybe that is what it is, but I just wanted ask some questions to see if anyone elses 02 was doing the same thing and it sounds just like the problem that NITROUSN was having. So I think a call to my dealer is in order.

it is a warrante item however it takes less time to free it up than it does to call to make an appointment at the dealer.

Hmm...
Sounds just like mine. Seems to run 'different' not bad just different, its hard to explain. I think I will check the waste gate and also the IAT if I can find it. Mine seems to smoke just a tad more than it used to, also dirtying up the oil quicker. I assume this is because the engine is not running as clean, ie smoking more = more soot in oil. Two oil changes ago it would take 3.5k to 4k miles to darken, now its starting to get dark at about 1.5 to 2k. Thats a big difference.

Sorry if didn't help you problem scook6, just seems awful similar to the way mines behaving and Ive been kinda searcing for answers. At 56k Im outta warrenty with out spending a deductable and Im not sure about the dealers anyway.
