ECM Problems

Put in a new ECM 7000 miles ago & it's out again. I was wondering if there is a better aftermarket one? If not what makes the ECM go out with very little miles? THANKS in advance for any info.

Voltage is main reason they fail, high volts will take them out quick. Make sure all your ground and battery connections are clean and tight. Maybe try another ground wire from ECM to Battery ground. Are you running a programmer? All of these ECM's are reman now. You're buying someone elses failed ECM that was repaired and tested.

Can you get any codes out of it, when mine went it had one or two codes regarding over limit voltage as mentioned.

No programmer, all is stock. All connections seem to be tight. I will check for codes first thing in the A.M.. Will try ground wire from ECM to battery ground. Thanks for info.

I tried pulling codes, but not sure if I'm doing it right. I turned on, off, on, off, & on. Don't see anything but odometer. No codes or done don't even come up. Seems like an electrical problem. Just can't figure it out.

That code check would need communication from the ECM to read out....you may have found your problem.

Next you will need to address why you may be getting a power surge or higher than normal voltage to the ECM.

Key trick doesn't work on 98 and 99 models..........Need to take it in and have it scanned for codes, pretty sure AutoZones scanner will do it.

Sorry for waiting so long to get back with y'all. But for a few months I gave up on my truck. Been working a lot more than should be. Anyway while I was at work, my wife decided to take my truck the shop. ECM was fine. My VP 44 was going out. So without letting me know she was doing this, they took me for a little better than two grand. Truck was still acting up. Rpm's was surging so I did some research. Cleaned & fixed all grounds under the hood. Didn't work. Figured I would try the aluminum foil on positive wire for alt. trick (with plenty doubt). It worked. Wish I would have tried this a few yrs back when I first read about it. Thanks to all who gave me info. Again sorry for the long delay on getting back with y'all.
