Pretty sure the VP is on its way out on my 99.

Having hard starts intermittently, but no codes yet.

I also really think this truck runs hotter than it should EGT wise, both empty and while towing heavy.. WAAAAY hotter than my 12v does with more hp.

I've heard that the timing control can get out of whack with a VP as they near death? Is this accurate?
If so, that could be the reason my EGT's are high.. Maybe the timing is staying too low.

Any ideas/opinions?

 

I have noticed that as the Vp44 ages. ( like more than two months old, in my case ) the timing tends to wander.

You will hear it in the rattle of the engine, or lack thereof. It just seems to go flat. and that said, the pyro temps do tend to go up as well.

I've only been through 6 vp pumps on my 01 so far, 10 stock lps,l 3 apps, 1 map, 1 iat, and one ect.

Oh, and in putting the 6th VP, I noticed that the front seal is gone in my turbo, so I have a new one of those on the way as well.

Not bad for a truck with 213,000 km on it huh?
