dropping a couple cylinders and blue smoke

Hi Everyone,

My truck is exhibiting a curious berhavior. Sometimes my truck will accellerate slowly/low power, even at WOT. It seems to lug or miss as if it had dropped a cylinder or two.

It happens intermittently, and usually after a short stop.
It is not predictable, and I can not make it do this on demand.
It goes away if I release the accelerator and press it again.
It will blow blue exhaust if I leave the accelerator pressed while it is acting up.

No boxes or mods. No other known defects. 98.5 / 24v / auto.

Any ideas out there?

Zip up to the tech facts section and look up the relearn procedure for APPS. Do that and see if the problem goes away.

If the problem continues and your delivery fuel pressure is good, then I would suspect the VP44 is losing the housing around the delivery valve and bypassing fuel pressure when the housing gets stuck. When that happens it it time to get a rebuilt VP44.

It is not all of the time. It occurrs intermittently.
It has not happened in weeks or months, but then it did it yesterday.

My fuel pressure is okay. 11 at idle, 6 at WOT. It is consistent.
The pressure is measured on the outlet side of the filter.

Pressure is not always an indication of proper flow.

You need to actually measure the volume of the fuel delivery system.Sounds like the suction line is restricted and the system is pulling air.Air getting into the injectors will give you an intermitant miss and whitish blue smoke
