Dreaded #53 Block Casting
Dreaded #53 Block Casting
Anyone know what years and models they used the #53 block that cracked under major stress???
I'm looking at an 01 2500, and couldn't see a number cast on it.
Anyone know?

Here is a post with a picture of the location of the number 53.

It is on the drivers side below the vp-44 just above the oil pan.

I think its just the clever shape of the 3. Im not aware of a 58 casting. So I would assume its a 3. There is a 56. 54 wasnt used in dodge. 55 was. 56 is the thickest to date. The 53s that fail are made in brazil. These are the most prolific. There are mexican blocks and they are thicker in the areas that crack. There casting numbers are different and you cant find the big 1" numbers on these blocks.
