Wow!

What, did your truck Explode?

I'd like to hear how the dealership decided to replace all of those expensive parts at once. Let the rest of us in on the story. Fuel pump? do you mean lift pump?

That could explain some of my problems with the service dudes... actually Dodge has been treating me right for the last 20 years.

But my mileage averages about almost dead on at 17 year round. I have been running the same fuel from the same Citgo truck stop for 70K+, all what they brand "OTR Diesel" and 99% highway/interstate miles.

If nothing else I've got a really solid base to compare fueling mods from....

The truth is most of these guys round up WAAAAAAY UP when they figger the fuel mileage on their trucks. Either that or they dont know how. Sixteen aint bad for a three quarter ton pickup n 4 wheel drive. Some of these guys will swear they get better mileage then their ole ladys 85 datsun 4 banger.

I'd been getting 19.6 until recently. I have been getting 17.2 - 17.6 for the last couple of months. I figured it was the winter formula, and after hearing of so many people with the same 'problem' I am certain it is a 'fuel supply' problem and not a truck problem. The way I calculate my MPG is as follows.
1: Fill the tank untill you see the fuel in the fill neck.
2: Reset the tripometer to 0.
3: Drive the truck as normal.
4: Fill fuel tank untill you see fuel in the fill neck.
5: Add 3.73% ( for the difference in tire size calibration) to the milage listed on the tripometer. divide the new correct milage by the number of gallons of fuel added.
6: Round the MPG, up or down as needed, to the nearest tenths.
7: Reset the tripometer for the next time.

In the last 3 weeks here in Mi. the temps have been sub zero to the teens. since this is the time frame where you bought your truck you have been using winter blend. sure can't see why the dealership is changing all those parts. Expect lower milage in the winter.

Skydog the 4:10 will make a difference I get about 16 with my rig there is a sweet spot on these motore that seems to be in the 1900-2100 range it is hard to keep the 4:10 in that range. If you tow with it you will really like the gearing with a load on.

they are not changing parts for gas mileage alone. am having other issues ie lack of power when towing not staying in overdrive when towing "cuting out " when pulling long grades when towing.

Skydog, don't feel too bad...I get about the same mileage as you in the city(12.5-13)but I get 19 out on the highway. I've got 4.10's with 265/75/16 tires. What size tires are you running?

Over here in Central Oregon the winter fuel makes a big difference in mileage. I get between 17-18 mpg in the spring and summer but right now in the dead of winter I get between 12-13 mpg. This is small short trips.
