Death Wobble
Death Wobble
OK, I HAVE READ SOME ABOUT THIS AND REALLY NEVER PAID ATTENTION TO IT........... BUT TODAY AT 70 MPH IT HAPPENED TO ME.......... WOW I THOUGHT I WAS DEAD... ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS AS WHAT IT COULD BE ???????????

Loose wheel nuts
loose or failing front end parts
bad U-jointBad hanger bearing
Broken belts in a tire
bad wheel bearing
Bad power steering box
bad shocks
And the list grows.....
Dont drive the truck until you check it over!

Good old DW is caused by worn front end parts and some times in conjunction with poor alignment.
The usual suspects are:
Worn track bar joint at the frame
Worn tie rod ends
Loose/worn pitman shaft bushings in the steering box (remedied with a DSS)
Worn out steering damper
Not enough positive caster - These trucks need at least 3.5* of positive caster. Do not listen to alignment people who say it is "in spec". The range of "in spec" is far too broad to be useful on these trucks. When at an alignment shop, insist on the 3.5* minimum caster spec. If they won't do it, go to a shop that will.
Also, keep in mind that DW can be caused by a combination of these problems so, check everything.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
70 MPH issue perhaps has more to do with tires/wheels. Is mud stuck inside a wheel? It was a brake caliper on mine. Replace in pair.
Did body shake up and down or did steering wheel oscillate.

Check every part of the front end today!
Usually a worn track bar sets it off. Leveling kit by chance?
You may want to crank the caster back on the adjusters too. That will help.
