Exactly what are you replacing? Ring & pinion? Diff carrier only? Need more info. Some special tools needed depending on what you are doing. Also can"cheat" if i knew what you were trying to accomplish.

As the title says, I want to know how hard it is to rebuild the limited slip within the carrier. That's all.

You need special tools to hold and compress the clutches.

Is that something you can get from any parts store that loans tools or are they specialty differential tools? If you have the rigth tools is it hard to do?

I would buy the dodge service manual. it will give you all the miller tool numbers you will need for servicing the diff. Also will give you detailed instructions on how to repair/overhaul the diff. You can contact miller/spx tools @ 1-800-801-5420. IMO, by the time you purchase what is necessary to do the overhaul for a one time fix,you may be better off purchasing the carrier complete. Just my $.02.

Just so we're all on the same page, I'm not talking about a complete differential overhaul. I just want to rebuild the clutch pack for the limited slip because all it does now is slip.

Yes, You still need special tools to service "just" the clutch pack part,as they are under preload. You will need the tool/tools to compress the pack.

Is it really even worth the trouble? Does anyone make a lunchbox locker that fits in a Dana 80 limited slip carrier?

Well, first of all, the title can not "say" anything, due to the fact that it can not "talk", 2nd of all, what is "limites"?

By the way, when someone is trying to be helpful and provide you with information, maybe your response should be polite. Before you get sassy with someone, it would be a good idea to make sure you are perfect.

Do you happen to know what tools are needed? The only tool I can think of is a case spreader and I've done it without one.
Next question: Have you ever worked on a Dana 70 or 80?

I restacked the clutches in mine with nothing more than normal shop tools. All the compressing is done when you bolt the 2 halves of the carrier back together. Just remember to keep track of the shims and what side they go on.

Tracklok is very repair friendly compared to some others.
Unbolt the halves, keeping track of how components are arranged.
Clean unit. Lube preassembled packs with additive, install or stack the components. Reassemble halves and properly torque.
Some have failed threads by not paying attention to details.
