Dana 70 wheel bearing Question
01 2500 4x4 about 1000 miles ago I replaced shoes an drums raybestos stuff,an put the bigger 1 ton chevy wheel cly in. Everything had been doing fine until a short trip the other day an my left rear wheel started smokeing . I stopped jacked the trk up an the brake seemed to be locked up . I had it roll backed home because I could not get the adjuster to back off . I had those 1 ton cylinders on my mind because as you know the push rods don't line up as straight as the OEM's do . Well when I got it apart by backing the adjuster off the only thing I can see is that some of the teeth on the adjuster are not so good I did not replace them . OK now the wheel bearing question this truck has 153000 mi on it but never has been a heavy hauler . I can grab the hub an push an pull on it an detect a very slight amount of play I wouldn't think it should have any,now this is with the axle still in . I did feel of the hub on the side of the road an it was pretty warm but the brake drum was hot I just figured it was heat transfer . I know something caused that brake to tighten an wheel bearings shouldn't have anything to do with it unless a loose bearing is letting the hub tilt a little an when i,ve backed up an hit the brakes the shoes was really getting a bite on that drum an adusting tighter & tighter ? So should I just go ahead an pull an inspect or replace that adjuster an try it, the wheel seals are fine ?
