I am replacing gears and bearings in the Dana 70 because pinion was very loose. All shims are damaged, and will be replaced. Does anyone know what the pinion checking distance is from the carrier center line to the pinion face is?
I think it may be 3.500"

 

The distance from the carrier centerline to the pinion face is 5.375 +/- whatever is marked on the new pinion. This is from the '02 FSM.

 

Thanks camelracer, i do believe my 3.500 dim. would be to the rear face of the pinion. The 5.375, minus pinion thickness equals 3.500 with a .030 shim, when checking with depth mic.
Gears should arrive Tuesday,and then the TIME consuming setting and pattern adjustment to follow.
