Pinion torque spec

I threw my driveline and screwed up the pinion yoke on my rearend/dana 70..Does any one know the torque for that nut...does it need to be "impacted on" or just "torqued down". THANKS

It will have a torque setting.
I am not home so I cannot look it up for you.
Most likely some number like 185.
Also the d80 is a different number so make sure which one if you ask!!

I looked in my '01 manual, and it says 190-290 ft.lbs. fill in your signature, so we know what year the truck is, although most of the stuff like that stays the same. One more thing, have fun.

Dave Fritz has all of the axle specs right here. Just work your way down through the options.

It is 215-230 ft/lbs.
This is the nut torque.
There is another number, called the pinion rotation torque.
This number is with no ring gear in place, measured torque to rotate just the pinion.

I just put a new ring&pinion and bearing kit in my Dana 70...and returned the Dodge manual back to F2Pipes...but the torque on that nut is more than my 1/2 drive torque wrench could handle....can't remember exactly, but I believe it is around 250-260 ftlbs. Had to borrow a 3/4 torque wrench and manufacture a pinion yoke tool to hold it while turning...
Since you are not getting into your diff, the pinion shims you have will give you the correct pinion bearing pre-load once you hit the correct torque on that nut.
