EGT is indicative of power the engine is producing to move the load - also how much black smoke you're blowing, which is worse

Don't believe it?

Check your EGT's at idle.

If no smoke, then you'll need to re-install the standard dia. tires, lower the truck, install a spoiler, etc, to reduce the load, which , at 70mph, includes wind drag.

Other than that, your EGT's are normal for that setup.

Electic fans on these trucks aren't a very good option because an electric needs to move a LOT of air.

The stock fan moves 2600+ CFM, or so it's told on the diesel boards. Lots of guys tried electric fans on the Cummins and gave up, as the cost/benefit just isn't there.

thanks for the replies well the only reason i am concerned about the egts is that i wiull be bumping up the fuel by going with a p-pump that will be in 500cc range

i want to go to the electric fan for the fuel milege an horsepower flex a lite makes one for a duramax that moves 6000 cfm and draws 36amps that seems more than enogh for my cummins what do you all think

Your not driving a Dmax and if you have cooling and MPG issues your problems are elsewhere with the CTD. Hotrodding causes excitement which causes a heavy foot which causes decreased fuel milage and high EGT's which causes concern which in turn cause money spent on more toys to hotrod more components which causes etc, etc, etc. Fuel milage is directly related to loose nuts right foot and inability to lift lead toe of hotrodder's sandels??????? CTD owner looks funny sitting on side of road with electric fan sucked into the mechanical turbine on the front of engine. Still want to be a DMAX owner or function like one. PK

The fan on a Dodge moves somewhere around 10,000 CFM of air. Electric fans don't put out that much air, and if they did the amp draw on the electrical system would be huge. Guys have tried towing with electric fans and found that the fans can't move the amount of air required to keep the Cummins cool and happy.

I'd leave the electric fan alone, if the stock fan won't cool it something else is wrong.

Your EGT's are what I would expect for that setup with a lift and 35's. Is you speedo corrected for the oversized tires? The faster you go the more fuel you burn the hotter the exhaust is.

Whats your water temperature when cruising? 180, 190?

Quick blasts with high EGT's are unlikely to overheat the engine. Sustaining 1100 degrees towing will overpower the cooling system and there is no fan that will help that.

guys i want to thank all of you for replying let me clear things up
the only reason i was looking at a electric fan was the little extra hp and the fuel saveing and with fuel running about 2.60 a gallon where i live i want i all i can get when it comes to fuel saveings

as far as egt's go the only reason i am concerned is that i will be switching to a p-pump and dont want to melt my engine down when or if tow something

been there done that, do not use a electric fan, it will not keep your dodge cool with any type of load, even turning on the a/c in traffic will send your temp guage soaring and the electric an't move enough air to cool it, by the way i tried a black magic and also used a 11 beside it, still won't do the job correctly
