code 1693 1688

So my truck has all the symptoms of a bad vp44. I used a OBD2 scanner on it and got the 1693 and 1688 code. From what I understand the 1693 just means that there is anther code (1688). Someone suggested to me that my computer may be giving false codes? Does anyone think that I might be wasting my money by putting a new injector pump in it. I took it to a cummins dealer but was told that I am better off going to a dodge dealer I just want to be sure before I fork out the cash. Thanks for the input I will not be able to read responses after Jan 16 as I will be out of town.

Be optomistic.............

Before I dropped the $$ for a new VP, I would reset the codes and see what happens. I don't know about false codes, but after all, it is a computer and we know how temperamental they can sometimes be.

The main problem is that I have no power, it won't maintain 70 mph up a hill empty. I get a dead pedal a lot and it starts rough when it is cold (this just started happening) I tried going over a small curb yesterday and it did not want to do that. I am going to take it to the dealer tomorrow just for them to diagnose it as a second opinion.

its your vp. the 1688 is the TRUE death code. your gunna have to replace it. and i would NOT take it to the dealer. its a simple swap that you can do in four to five hours in your driveway. as a matter of fact, im heading up to the shop to replace one right now....

The 1688 code means your VP44 internal electronics has failed.

Several palces to get good rebuilds. for good price.

Hoesli Diesel doesn't charge a core charge if you return the old pump within 30 days. Thay also provide a UPS pickup tag in the box so don't need to pay return shipping for your old pump.

No, P0216 is Injection pump electronic timeing failure. Mine had that for months and I had to change it this Sat afternoon finally.

P1688 is a much more fatal code for the VP44, hard part failure IIRC

Working on an '00 w/ the same codes, have to the injectors when rolling over and will some what run with battery charger on it, take off charger and quits running, and also was told that the electronic part of the IP could be replaced, but what I've read here it is not the case.
