Exclamation clutch problems

I replaced the auto. trans in my 2001 cummins with an nv4500 (5-speed). the entire swap when great. everything was there, simple bolt-up. the problem is i have no idea what year the trans or bell housing came out of. i bought the slave cylinder for my tear of truck, and it just doesn't all mesh right. at a stand still i can't shift into any gear smoothly. i have to jam it into 2nd, then once i get rolling it shifts fine, which is common since you don't need the clutch when your moving anyway. i've already retightened all bolts, nuts, checked all connections, and even attempted to lengthen the slave cylinder rod to get the clutch to engage/disengage better so i can shift w/o grinding gears at a stand still. nothing has help.has anyone ever heard of this problem or ran into it themselves?

Is it a new master/slave cylinder on the swap, or used? I'd guess a bad hydraulic system and its not extending out all the way.

the slave is brand new from dodge, and it is pre-filled and sealed from the factory. so there is no way to bleed it.
