Cleaning injectors

After several years of using the same injectors, do they nned to be removed and cleaned? I have never heard anyone talk about this. Surely performance has got to suffer after say 100 K miles or so on the same sticks. Will it hurt to let them soak overnight in some acetone. I know when mine have been removed before, they always seemed to have some black residue on them, which I can only guess was carbon buildup. Any suggestions are appreciated. In this time of extreme fuel prices, better mileage is a premium.

IIRC i let mine sit in carb and choke cleaner for a few days before the crud would come off.

Not the same as a gas engine. Can't see tips building carbon, where it matters, at 17,000 psi per injection shot!
If concerned, use a good gradual injector cleaner mixed in with fuel and leave them in the truck.
Running some Bio Diesel will do the job nicely, also. Easier and less like 'major surgury'. JMO

they were not on the truck. i bought some tips from someone and they were

dirty. so i soaked them before installing them. i could have used something

else, but i think it was carb and choke cleaner. it did not come off instantly, it

took a few days.

edit, i miss read RJ's post. mine where dirty, not sure if it was dirty were it

mattered, but i wasnt sticking those dirty things in like they were.
