"check guages" light on startup

My 1999's "check gauges" light comes on every morning at startup & goes out after about 5seconds.....Is this normal? I cant remember my last 99 doing this.

I'd have the batteries tested (separately) and monitor the charge sys voltage at startup. FWIW my 01 does NOT do this.

Mine does that when one of the batteries is going and usually on the cooler mornings when the preheat screen is activated. The Alternator isn't getting enough exciter current to fire it up right away so it reads low/erratic and the light goes on. Once it warms up and everything evens out the light goes off.
Cheap easy diagnostic, take it to Nap-auto-advance-boys and let them clip the magic tester to both batteries, It only takes a few minutes and it's free.
