two weeks ago my check engine light came on. it has stayed on except for this last sat. then came back on. tuesday nite onthe way home the tach guit working for about three miles, noticed a loss of power,engine souded diff., felt like the turbo guit.then everything came back on. oh ya the brake light and ABS light came on also on one of those days,checked fuses all ok. ive got the next day or two off so it will be going into the shop unless i can figure this out with a little help from some of you. HELP!!!!

 

Check your speed sensor. It's on top of your rear axle. Only wires on your rear axle. Check the connection and see if that is loose. I think it's called your speed sensor. No matter what it's called, check it anyways. It may be going bad.

 

If your tach quit, look at your crankshaft position sensor. Normally that will be a good indication of a bad cps. As blue said ABS and Brake lights usally mean a problem with speed sensor in the rear axle . Have you read your codes? If your check engine light is on you have some in there. Let us know. Tim

 

on my dodge mini van i could cycle the key 3 times to get the code. tried that on the truck didnt work. how do get the codes.

 

The CPS sounds right to me also. I had the same thing happen to my truck. But the light did not come on
and stay on for periods of time.

 

For a '99 you'll have to find someone with a code reader.

Most Autozones will read your codes for free.
Others have tried other major auto parts stores and they did as well.

The key cycle thingy works on 2000's and up.

In my 93 the abs and brake light stays on coujld the speed sensor on the rear axel just be loose or bad? its not the brakes there all new

Had exactly the same symptoms on my 2001 245 HO only when I shut the engine down it would not restart. Ended up with ECM and PCM's being replaced. See my complaint titled "Won't Start" posted yesterday.
