Can I drive without the rear driveshaft?

I need to take the rear drive shaft in to get it balanced. Will I lose my tranny lube if I drive without the driveshaft in the transfer case?

The truck is a 2002 6speed 4x4.

My truck is 05. It will leak if I pull drive shaft.

you can drive the truck with no rear shaft but i would only drive it home or to a shop for repair , t-case will leak with the shaft out like above and is hard on the drivetrain . my 2 cent

i drove my 03 without the rear shaft in to diagnoise drive line noise/vibration, i capped the output with an old paint spray can lid that fit tightly into the TC output seal, I then taped it in place with duct tape, likely drove 5-10miles at various speeds upto 50mph, never lost a drop....
that being said I kept an eagle eye on it for leaks

if you have a second car it would be the first choice

Thanks. My wife had a day off so I used her car. Got the driveshaft balanced and still have some rumble coming from the rear of the truck. It ain't bad but it is still there. It was gone with the back half of the driveshaft off. Tired of messing with it.
