A/C Question
A/C Question
This is probably more a non A/C question but here goes......
A/C compressor has been making some noise these last few days and finally started howling this afternoon.
It looks/sounds like the bearing in the front clutch is on the way out. I don't plan on fixing it for the sake that the A/C itself hasn't worked in years.
Can I replace my "with A/C" serpentine belt with a "non A/C" belt and just be done with the A/C altogether.
I'm sure I pretty much answered my own question, being other than a different routing and length of the belt, it's all the same when you take the compressor out of the equation.
Figured I would ask anyways just in case
Thanks in advance
Jeff

A/C hasn't worked in years and to fix it would mean a condenser and now a compressor. Dealer could never find anything wrong with it but they admit it didn't work properly. Over the years, the condenser has taken a beating from rocks and flying animals and then we need to look at the evaporator after all these years, it's not worth it.
If I was still driving my 300 miles a day I might give it it a thought but now, the truck moves twice a week for a total of about 100 miles. With 255,000 on it, she is kind of retired now from active duty and is used mostly to haul the horse trailer and a trip to town here and there.
I just bypassed the compressor with a non-A/C belt and it's good to go.
