That will keep the oil from pouring down the front for sure.

Yeah, I was think of the oil problem too... I know that PVC will handle it. The hose is reinforced vinyl tubing found at most hardware stores. The only think I screwed up was the last elbow in the back should of had a threaded nipple to remove the down pipe. Currently it's hose clampped in place. So that last elbow leaks a bit.

I've seen on my buddies semi he has a heater hose on the crankcase breather to the ground. But it does get gummy and will collapse when it gets to bad.

I will keep that in mind and keep an eye on it. Any idea how long it takes before it rots away?

What year did they start putting the bottle to catch the blowby? On my 12V I used the same reinforced hose the replaced the stock hose and dropped it below the engine.

* Why not plumb it into your exhaust so you can make a little smoke?
Isn't that what they do on a jet engine for show?

Not sure on when they started putting the bottles on.

As for plumbing into the exhaust, I would worry about the exhuast gas backfeeding into the crankcase vent and pressurizing the engine. I wouldn't think that would be good for the engine. You would have to put in a one way valve in to prevent that.

If it did work I would also worry about a gunk build up on the pipe walls. The exhaust may or may not burn off the crankcase gases depending on EGT's.

Here is a pic on the mess the vent can make. This truck in the pic is a 01 and only has 75,000 miles.

They started adding the breather bottle for the 2nd generation Dodge's and was redesigned on the 3rd genration.

Someone here on the site did that... used a one-way air valve and plumbed the crankcase vent in to the exhuast. Do a seach on crankcase vents, or exhaust you might find it.

My problem is the exteme oil spillage during steep descents. No I don't like the vent design on the TSB recall... Strange that DC never kept that design either when they went to the 3rd Generation design... That tells alot right there...

It may not be the worst but that crap is hard to clean off. Best way I found so far is to scrape it off with a small putty knife, and follow up with a good degreaser/cleaner.

I caught it before it became a huge mess on the front of my engine...

Here is the before pic...

After the mod and about another 20K on the clock!

So far it nice and clean in front but I goofed on the backside of the pipe and it drool down the pipe... OPPS! But there is no oil on the truck! Still a good design!

I extended my hose and relocated the bottle to the outside of the frame rail....see my picts.

I just removed a radiator out of an 01 today with a customer complaint of "getting hot towing up grades". Fins were coated with oil/dirt from the fan whipping this factory installed oil leak around. Good de-grease and acid wash to remove all the oil film, relocate the hose, and life was good. Take a look with a flashlight at the front of your radiator. You may be surprised by the ring of dirt clogging the airflow.

Some of us are a bit smart...

I pressure washer the radiator about every month. This is to clear out the amount of bugs it sucks in. I do know what you mean about the oil and dirt ring on the radiator. I did a panic stop one night to advoid hitting a deer. Needless to say I hit the deer with the bumper but at a very low speed ~30 MPH no damage. But the stock breather bottle puked over 2-3 quarts of oil all over the radiator, fan, belt, just everwhere under the hood. At first look you would think I distroyed a engine or something... This is why I went for the over the top design. If you extent the hose down you will still lose oil on hard braking or steep down hills!

The bottle is only there to catch the dripping oil... That's all nothing more... If you don't mine it drooling on the ground...

Bottle is not needed take it off and throw it in the round file. The add some PVC pipe on it...

Straight down or up over the top... Rubber hose will soften and will kink eventually...

I just used a plastic double hose barb and some semi clear 3/4 plasic hose from Lowes and it dumps near the fuel tank to keep the vapors from getting sucked in the fresh air. I have it down hill all the way, and no bottle, a few drips wont hurt the gravel drive way. See pic in my gallery.

That kind of length will become a problem this winter. The oil vapors will have water or moisture in it. It the colder winters (below 32*F) the hose will freeze shut on you. This will cause seal damage because the engine can't breathe any longer...

I highly suggest you trim the hose back...

My was terminated at the starter. I won't got any farther because the heat of the engine keeps it from freezing up. Aslo I never had a problem with smell of oil vapors on mine...

Check pic gallery...

Sorry to ressurrect this.. but I'm curious, I have a 12V.. Not sure how much my breather leaks.. but basically what you do is extend the road tube down a bit so it doesn't spray so much on the engine, right?

Thanks!
