theres a truck or sale in my area and it has a leaking head gasket its a 98. the computerized 98 and i think it has the the 53 block i got the REF num and the enigine num would anyone know how to find out if it is a 53 block i heard there is a number on the side of the block that says 53 casted into the block but can the engine numbers tell u

Look real good at the block pass side right below the head. That's where they leak. It's probably not the head but the block has cracked. I would walk away if it's a 53. Unless you have a good block laying around to swap.

A verified cracked block would make the value of unit very low. Dealers, used car lots and auctions will make their value very attractive for a do it yourselfer on engines. JMHO
