Bought to buy a Cummins..insight?
I have a 98 K2500 chevy lifted on 38's and its breaking down. One thing after the other. I always wanted a dodge and my dad just got a new 08 Ford powerstroke and that sold me on the diesel. I was stuck for 9 hours one day and tried everything..had a nissan titan and two F150s strapped up to my truck and it wouldnt budge..my buddy came with his older powerstroke I think 02, and literally within ten seconds I was out. I have videos Ill post up.
Anyways....I dont know to much about these engines. Whats the average lifespan of one if taken care of properly? HP? Torque? I have my eye on one that has 205k, its a 1999, the tranny was completely rebuilt in January. Here is the listing details..

Go to kbb.com and look up the values. Price seems a bit high to me for one of that vintage and that many miles. I paid only a little more than that for a 2002 with ~130k miles. But a lot of the values are location dependent so it might be in line with what the market is for your area.
does the stuff on that truck make it that much better then this 2002 with 147k stock tranny and motor no warrenty.....the other one has a 3 year warrenty from the dealer on everything..and this 2002 is 14,500

LIfe span? I've never heard of one actually wearing out. They usually either last forever or something fails-- block cracks (53 blocks), pistons melt or get scored or something.
The vast majority of Cummins failures occur in abused trucks (hot rodded or insufficient/improper maintenance-- like Fram filters, etc).

well most banks around here go by the black book value of something. thats how they loan $. maybe you dont need to borrow any money. all dealerships want to go by that kelly blue book which means when they have it for sale they want thousands more than its worth.

I bought my 99 two years ago with almost 270k miles for 9500. My credit union had no problem giving me a loan for it. I've been very happy with it. Just rolled over 290k last weekend. I've got one small leak at the vacuum pump that I haven't repaired yet. These engines really are amazing if they've been cared for.
That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all to me. After some mods I recently updated my trans to the tune of around $4k. That would be a selling point to me, especially if they have all the records of the trans rebuild.
