blowby bottle jam up..now what?

I had just changed the oil on my truck and after dumping my relocated bottle I must have put the bottle on too far up and jammed the hose into the bottom of the bottle. :P After a day or so I started to notice an oil fume smell coming into the cab. I found the bottle and pulled the hose free and got a belch of smoke from the bottle. But now I still smell the oil every day when stopped. I was wondering if I blew out some kind of seal or damaged something somewhere. Or could it possibly be that I switched from whatever oil the dealerships use to Rotella? Please help, the smell is driving me mad...

Dodge released a bulletin on this very thing. There are certain products in the heavy duty oil our trucks use, that cause it to emit that foul smell for a few days after we change oil. It will go away shortly and you will get used to it doing that everytime you change oil. It just needs to work for a hundred miles or so to lose the smell.

You will find different threads on relocation but here's what I did. Went to Home Depot and bought a male/male and about 5 feet of clear hose and moved the blowby bottled back to the cross member under the tranny. With it there, the ventilation system doesn't bring it in the cab with you and it keeps the front of the engine clean.

I think if you clean everything off good, or just wait a couple of oil changes, you'll find that the smell will return to the levels it did right after you relocated the bottle.

I used Rotella when mine was new and I had that smell, usually real bad after oil changes. I switched to Delo 400 and it doesn't smell even after the change. <br> Like the old saying Rotella=Smella. ;D
