Blowby Bottle Removal

Does removing the blowby bottle and extending the hose to an inch or so below the stabilizer bar cause any new issues -- like a mess somewhere else on the truck? Or, if I want to relocate the bottle, where is the best (easiest to clean) spot to put it?

I extended mine straight down to about 3" past the sway bar, securing it to the sway bar.

Diff. cover is shiny but not coated with crap like the front of my motor and radiator were.

If you don't know you will need a 3/4" to 3/4" hose coupler and about 3' of hose to do this.

Some people run the hose back behind the transfer case or the front diff. but I just dropped it straight down as I always clean my undercarriage anyway.

O and most of us just ditch the bottle.

I ran the hose back to the transmission crossmember where the bottle sits. Been back there for about a year now and have had no issues with it. If oil is coating anything back there I haven't noticed it, but I really haven't looked hard in that area at all.

Thanks to you both for the advice. I'm anxious to ditch the bottle and lessen opportunity for spillage!

Make sure that when you extende the hose that you don't decrease the diameter - you want the flow to remain the same. You won't have a problem one with getting that blow-by further down to keep the mess off of your engine.

My bottle was removed for free by the dealer due to a TSB. I did however go back and etend the hose they put on it past everything I didn't want oil all over. Now it just comes out around the oil pan gasket so I gave up on a clean motor.

Redstreak: do you consider using a barbed connector to attach the hose extension a restriction?

I'd say not as long as it's not that big. I actually went higher up and cut the factory hose and got a bigger one to go over it but I'm sure your idea will work out great.

I also just slipped a larger diameter hose over the factory one. Why spend money on metal fittings?

That way would keep the crap off the bottom of the engine though - wouldn't that look cool if it was powder coated red or CHROME!!!!

The unpainted version you can clearly see the route I took to plumb the vent back. But as soon as I painted it flat black it dissappears fast don't it...

Ask BuckshotMcKee about his...
