Block Heater Issues
If you have a block heater, and most of us do that live north of the Mason Dixon line, you need to pay a little attention to the plug before the season gets rolling.
I had intermittent problems as if there was no power getting through when I started getting cold starts while plugged in. I was about to buy a new plug & heater set when I figured I'd brush up the plug contacts. Before I did, I checked the continuity on a meter and it was lousy. BINGO! Brushed 'em up and got a good reading. It's exposed all the time and I never gave it a thought. Also added a dab of white lithium grease afterwards.
Second issue was water getting into the plug and popping my GFI all the time. I found some bicycle inner tube, cut a 6" section out, slid it over the plug (truck end) then tie-wrapped it 3x above the plug making a water resistant "hood" of sorts. Works great and at the right price.
I've seen some nice weather proof plug boxes for trucks out there but can't seem to find one. Anyone know where to find one?? Saw a couple cheesy ones with just a flap but not for me. Drop a line - Ken

i was having the same problem, and it was tripping the overload on the out let,i buffed it up with a scotch bright and it works again, also sprayed some dry lube onto it, and the extention cord i use, i like your hood idea, gonna have to do that, the little plastic plug cover is cheesy also, and the hood will keep the ice off when your not plugged in

I put a Marinco dock outlet plug on my rig. I drilled a hole in the bumper to the left of the license plate and mounted it there. It has a weathercover and is a solid mount to plug into. Someday I'm gonna post some pics of all this stuff. Kurt
