BBD, after 416,000 miles, I would have to say that the #53 stamped on your block is neither good nor bad, but irrelevant.

At 416,000 the only thing we know for sure is , that it doesn't say Powerstroke or duramax

Hey BBD I think you got Haulin's luck from his truck. Hopefully you haven't jinxed it now by posting 416k and 53 in the same paragraph..
Haulin is your new engine a 53 also? Yikes if it is..

There were no casting marks on the new block, but does it matter, it has the stereotype crack on the side and is junk.

I can't find casting numbers on my truck anywhere.......

A few little undecipherable symbols and a B stamped near the A.C compressor bracket.

Anyone know what any of that means??

Crawl under the left side (drivers side) look above the oil pan rail at the front of the block. The numbers will be in that area below the injection pump. If it is a series of small numbers you are ok.

Nothing going yet. The biggest thing going right now is a higher water bill. Takes about a gallon in 50 miles. I will get something, I have a receipt but did not purchase it from Cummins. With an open receipt for the purchase of a "new" 5.9 long block, it is a shoe in sooner or later.
