ball bearing in LP line

ball bearing in LP line
I found a apx .280 dia. ball bearing in the inlet fitting so it could move forward to screen and back to end of fuel line. Anyone herd this before? Also being that I am new to this forum I would like to say ,very good! and thanks, good info.Just got new pump on and was sweating and praying that my vp44 is still alive. It took about 3 tries to get some air fuel mix at the injectors, but then she took off. What is the right wrench for injectors 3/4 or mm?Thanks again

lamar,
Had the same problem with mine.
There is a ton of info here on the lift pump. I took mine apart and the spring was gone completely and the ball bearing had worn half its diameter into the pump vanes. It actually still flowed pretty well just no pressure. The entire insides of the pump were wallowed out big enough for my pinky to fit in. The fuel filter caught all of the shavings (I hope). It was full of chips onthe inlet side but completely clean on the outlet side. I've got 22k on the truck since and no problems. Don't know how long it ran with no pressure. I have a gage now.

I'm going to dig farther I didn't notice any damage but cant figure how it got where it was. These do have a over flow valve?? Also on the Inj. wrench I had a hard time braking them loose with standard 3/4.I thought I tried a 19mm and it wouldn't fit. What is the right one with leverage. The book calls for 20 or 30 lbs. They were way tighter.Maybe its been running a long time with no maint. Thanks for the info

the injector nuts you pretty much go by feel... can't really accurately get a torque reading on them... if they're leaking, they're probably not tight enough
I just use a regular wrench, but my truck is a 12v.
I don't believe the 24v trucks have an overflow valve...

forest, I think somebody(at dodge?) got overzealous on torque. There is a relief valve in the inj.pump in the return line. The lift pump has one and the ball was in the wrong place Maybe thats why it just died warning up.There was no output.Didn't look to worn inside. No for some gauges. Is it ok to go mechanical all the way?I might cut off a 3/4 and weld an extension on Thanks
