Been there, not complaining timbo's lasted 6 years better than factory I am on my fifth apps with 350,000k on the truck. I have no idea how good or bad the cheep ones are but for that price i can fill my clove box with them and still be further ahead in dollar value just saying?

Sounds like you may have an alternator issue which is creating excessive AC noise affecting your APPS. Have you ever checked?

Agreed.....but going through five of them in 350k miles is anything but normal. And its also well understood that an alternator producing too much AC noise will take out an APPS unit. Thats why they sell noise filters for them and why the automatic tranny trucks can suffer from rapid lock/unlock of the torque convertor too. For as much as the APPS cost I'd think you'd want to make sure your alternator isnt wasting your money.

Never heard of this affecting a standard trans as far as I have ever seen its just a auto shifting issue between the two!
