Anyone else notice there's a 7micron FF for VP trucks?
I saw it on Geno's site, and was wondering if anyone was using them, specifically if there was a big drop in FP.
The later 2nd gen trucks share the FF housing with the 3rd gen's so the new super-duper FFs they come out with for the HPCR trucks will also work on a later 2nd gen.
I'm ordering a couple of the 7mic filters. Has to help VP life over a 10 micron filter.....

Yes, oil filters are identical. The only difference in the 16035 vs the 3789 is the fluted can at the bottom for a cap-style filter wrench.
I'm running a on Donaldson Endurance full flow-- AWESOME! The oil stays clean a lot longer than before.

I seem to recall reading that the finer particulate filters, like the 7 micron could actually hurt rather than help, because their fine filtration could cause a loss in pressure.
Honestly don't know if this was opinion, or fact, I just remember reading about the finer filtration thing.
Along that line, couple of years back, Heavy Duty Trucking magazine published an article about filters, and how they performed in different engines.
This article was concerning the Class 8 engines, in the big rigs, (so it might not be of any use toward the smaller line of engines.)
Engine brands used for the tests were Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, and Mack.
Owning a Cat engine in my Big Rig, I was really interested in the Cat info, and while I don't remember what filter brands were used, and how they scored, a couple of things caught my attention.
Cat was most sensitive to dirty/wet fuel.
Cummins was least sensitive.
Cat brand filters provided more protection for Cat engines.
Fleetgard was rated very high.
Once again, this was for the Class 8 engines, and may not mean squat for our motors.
As I'm typing this my curiousity is now aroused, & I'm going to see if I can find that article, and read through it again.

I have had a 2 micron (aftermarket Racor) filter on my truck all winter and didn't seem to have any problems. I meant to switch to 10 in the winter but didn't put enough miles on the filter to warrant it.
