I have tried the Alterstart high output alternator on my truck, but with the high amp draw I have in winter months, intake grid heaters and snowplow hydraulic pump, that went south too.

I had the OEM Denso rebuilt at an alternator shop for $60. The brushes were fine, the diode plate is what fails in my case.

The best cost option may be finding a place that could rebuild your current unit, or doing it yourself. There are rebuild kits available, I believe Fostertruck.com has one.

Good luck!

same here, Find a local alt/starter rebuild shop, mine cost 20$ to fix, , I took it apart after hearing the alt making a growling noise. the brushes were wore out as well, was a cheap repair vs 250$ plus for a new one.

Typically the brushes wear out and can be replaced cheaply, and it takes but a couple minuits to check them.
