Carter made the lift pump on the 12v for Cummins. Jobber price for the 12v is $131.68 I don't think you will find it for less than jobber. If you are talking about the 24v in your sig Carter, AC ,and Airtex none list it.

Re:alternative to cummins for lift pump?

I have a spare lift pump and it says Carter right on it. I also tried to purchase (from the dealer), before realizing how interchangeable these pumps are, a spare to carry with me. No way the dealer said. You must have a bad pump before we can get you another. I got sick of their BS and took off my new pump, and replaced it with two pushers (Holley Black / Carter). I love my Dealer, and I know that sounds strange, but they treat me well. I would definitely buy my next vehicle from them (regardless of price). You guys with bad pumps should explore the idea of a non-Cummins pump. Cheaper, and seems to run just as well.

What kind of pressures are you seeing with your Holley/Carter setup? I've got just a Black in the stock location and my pressures are 19.6 at idle and 13.2 at WOT with Comp.

Re:alternative to cummins for lift pump?

WOW, I seem to learn a lot on this board, thanks for the replys!

Whiskey, good link..thank you !

Question about the Carter..will it mount in the stock location without too much modifying and where can I buy one for a spare? The one I ordered from Cummins in Louisville came in today but it will be tomorrow after work before I can install.
I ordered high flow banjos from Geno's and I think I'll put them on at the same time..is that a good idea? I wonder my odds of getting this thing to start afterwards. Wish me luck.

Re:alternative to cummins for lift pump?

I've got the Holley Black in the factory location. The Carter is in the frame rails. I see 20 psi @ idle, 13 @ WOT (empty) and 8 with a load (recovers to 10 after a few seconds). It was higher before I got my transmission done. I am pushing way too much fuel, and not enough air. Maybe I need to take the SC Dieseltuner off until I can get a bigger turbo. The EGTs can hit 1600 quick!

You may want to look at www.wildcatdiesel.com for the fuel system upgrade they sell. I have it on mine I used to get 4 or less WOT now Im at 7 PSI + just from the kit about 1.5 hours to install and worth every penny.

Re:alternative to cummins for lift pump?

I finally got mine changed this morning. It was easier than I had imagined and now I'm going to either carry a spare or go to Wildcat like Jamie said and get an upgrade. It took a first timer about half an hour and three different sized sockets to do it. Thanks for all the replys folks. I got 60+ K on this one so maybe just a spare stock replacement would work for me.

Re:alternative to cummins for lift pump?

If I had to do it all again knowing what I know now I would have gone with the Carter kit in the frame rails in addition to the stock LP. Diesel Dynamics has a kit for the Cummins 24 valve that allows for use of a second LP in the frame rails. The "Kit" comes with 2 pieces of fuel hose, a relay the necessary wires, a fuse link and a bracket for mounting. I am not sure what they sell it for (retail), but I think it is still less money than the Holley. This scenario still gives the use of two fuel pumps, so if one dies you could still get to the destination. If the objective includes medium to severe mods, two pumps is the only way to go! LE
