all the fluids must go
all the fluids must go
Hello
Just switched oil to the royal purple product. I got a great deal on the oil and was wondering what other fluids that will need to change. Let me see if I an get it all right
both front and rear differentials
transfer case
transmission
What fluids will I need for each.
What oil filters do people like also, I have heard that there is a 25K filter out there?
thanks
Tonto

Don't buy into the 30K mile oil change hype. It's silly, but if you do decide to run 30K miles on an oil change just make sure you tell the guy you are selling the truck to (in a few years) that you did that. I'm sure he will be so impressed he will double your asking price. It's lubricating oil, not magic.
Keep a logbook on maintenance, change the oil every 5K and you will MORE than get your money back by impressing the guy buying your used, BUT WELL CARED FOR CTD.
There are many thread about oil, filters, etc. Do a search and read till your hearts content.

I had an oil analysis done on mine after 5000 miles and they told me that the oil was almost brand new. And that was on Rotella. Now I'm running synthetic. So I'm gonna do a sample at 6k and every 1k afterwards to see how it is.
Just something to think about on oil changes.

Don't post dribble that you don't actually know anything about just because " a 30K oil change....that can't be possible...[chuckles to himself]"
Original poster,
Amsoil is the pioneer of extended drain intervals. They reccomend 25K on their oil and filters under normal driving conditions, guaranteed. No bull, no crap, no "but only on certain makes and models".... 25K.
What you want for a filter is a nanofiber media filter. Most brands use Cellulose for filter media, which looks like swiss cheese under a microscope and breaks down after so many heat cycles. Nanofiber media is a much more consistant media that takes much longer to break down (perfect for 25K syns) and has more storing capacity. Nanofiber filters that I know of are Amsoil brand filters, Donoldson Endurance (what I run) and I think Fleetguard has one too.
I fall into the severe driving catagory and is reccommended that I change my Amsoil at 15K, I plan on going longer since the oil still looked better than when I ran conventional and drained it at 7K.
Anyone that tells you to drain oil at 3-5K needs to learn more about diesel engines and today's oils. Some people are just stuck on 3K or you are going to hell, because they grew up on that, which is ok too.
Just remember, Dodge says 7,500miles if you tow and/or drive hard with short trips, 15K if you don't tow and do lots of distance driving.

I've been changing my Dino oil every 6K miles regardless of color. Since I've been doing this I had ZERO problems with the engine other than the typical LP and VP44 problems.
I'm using fletguard filters and Exxon 15W-40 Cummins rated oil (CI-4)
