Aftermarket lift pump specs
Hey guys, lookin for some ideas here. I'm on a very very tight budget and I pulled up the dreaded #0216 on our scanner. I just put a new filter in, and it seems to have fixed the problem, but now I'm paranoid. I wanna put a pusher pump in, but since I'm dead broke I'm goin as cheap as I can. I've seen Jegs and Summit both have a good variety of fuel pumps, some under $100 bucks which is about what I can afford to get me by for now.
So...does anyone know if these pumps will work with diesel....and if so what kinda psi's and gpm's do I need to not starve out the VP?

You might look at the AirTex pump and Vulcan for a big line relo kit. I think a lot of people have had good experience so far with Airtex. It is an OEM repacement, as the Carter is very unreliable(junk) A lot of pumps do not seem to do well with this application, tons of reading on this site.

I have been browsin around on here at pumps. Heard good things about the Walbro, I'll prolly break down and look into one of those. Good points about not goin cheap on it cuz of the IP price....Afraid it's already dyin, occasional dead pedal, smoke, bad mileage...all the symptoms.
One more thing....If I get a pump, is it necessary to bump up the fuel line size?
I can save there, workin at a diesel shop, got plenty of braided hose and all the aeroquip fittings I need at cost.

I ran the stock fuel lines with my mild mods untill recently and there was no noticeable difference in power between stock and the larger lines. Fuel pressure at the pump did go up a psi or so with the big line kit. Glenn

No need to bump up fuel line size with a new pump such as the Walbro. From what I can tell, a bigger line just makes the pressure stay more consistent... in other words, at WOT, it doesn't pull down as far, nor as fast. But peak pressures are about the same roughly. It's negligable.
I have the Walbro... love it. Plumbed it thru new line to the OEM fuel filter and wired it directly to the same contacts that were driving the Carter. Some like this, some don't. To each his own.
